So I figured I should give an update on that outing with friends. Are you ready? This is rich.
Friend 1 – Completely forgot we made plans. Like straight up texted me, “What are you up to tonight? I’m not doing anything!”
Friend 2 – Canceled last minute. Shocker. I made the mental note to not make solid plans with them again. Why should I rearrange my schedule for someone to not show?
Friend 3 – Pissed that others didn’t show, they came through. So I decided right then & there to take their friendship seriously. We’ve gotten together once or twice since then & they have always communicated, shown up, & been gracious. Top tier person. Hands down.
So what did I learn?
Friend 1 – I think I’ve talked to them maybe twice in the past two months. Zero self awareness on their part & I’m fine with moving on. It’s not my job to teach you social skills or that relationships take work.
Friend 2 – I think they realized they fucked up. We did get together later & had a lot of fun. I just made sure my plans with them were in pencil, not pen.
Friend 3 – We talk fairly regularly & I’m feeling really good about it.
It was an interesting experiment but I learned my lesson hard. I’m no longer wasting my time with half-ass friendships.
