Use what you have – Part 3

Okay, so I’ve got this new project I’m really excited to tell you about. It’s a total minimalist/nerdy thing to do but it makes me happy so it’s awesome! Yay! It’s an evolved version of where I’ve been with minimalism lately. Obviously, as this is part 3. 😉

I decided to go through my house & fill up a bin of anything I haven’t actively used since God-knows-when. I also put in items I used once & wasn’t thrilled with or anything I’ve honestly moved on from. Anything I think others may be able to use, I’m offering it to them first. I’m realizing I want to only have items that make me happy & that I like using. Surrounding myself with positive things. It’s that simple.

Anyways, I’m putting all of that into a bin, sealing it up, & putting it in my garage for 2 months. I’m sure experts say “6 months” or maybe the hardcore ones say “3” but I know me. I need a tighter time frame to put a fire under my ass. Anything I haven’t gone out of my way to go to the garage & pull it back out gets donated. And because it’s already in a nifty little bin, I just put it in the back of my car & head on over to Goodwill. I don’t need to sort through it again or put it into a trash bag or something.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

I’m also trying to repurpose & rearrange a few things. For example, I moved my electric kettle to the opposite counter. I have more room for tea goodies & I’m not smacking into my fridge. Why it took me 8 years to figure this out, I’ll never know. 😉 A former student gave me some beautiful flowers in a mason jar as a teacher gift. That jar is on my desk now & holds my change.

Since I started to do this about a week ago, I catch myself randomly smiling or singing throughout the day. I’m happy. Little changes, like keeping what I love & being content with what I have, are doing wonders for me. They’ll do wonders for you, too. 🙂

Yes. I. Am.
